Consumers expect more from pet products


Buzzwords like "natural" and "organic" may no longer be enough for increasingly scrupulous pet owners.

According to Reportbuyer's "Packaged Facts' April 2014 Pet Owner Survey," 61% of dog product purchasers and 50% of cat product purchasers actively seek out pet foods that are Made in USA.

"Because of the exponential growth this market has experienced in recent years, 'natural' alone is no longer enough to make new products fly off the shelves, so most of the new products being launched in the natural product space offer additional features such as condition-specific ingredients or low-glycemic formulations," wrote the organization in a statement.

Consumers also indicated a preference for environmentally friendly products made from sustainable or recycled/recyclable materials and manufactured with a smaller carbon footprint.
