Poll question: 2024 Starts
Based on the latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau, 2023 ended with 1,413,100 total housing starts.
Data for the month of December will probably be adjusted, altering that figure marginally one way or the other. But roughly speaking, 2023 saw housing starts decline 9.0 percent from the 2022 total figure of 1,522,600.
Twenty-one percent of HBSDealer readers who participated in last year’s forecast survey accurately predicted a high single-digit decline, and another 36 percent who predicted a 10 percent or more decline were very close.
