NPD Stat of the Week: Grill power

Sales of grills and smokers increased more than 40% in 12 months ending in March.

STAT: Over the last twelve months, dollar sales of grills and smokers has grown by over 40%, with an 8% increase in average price, up to just over $200 on average. Growth was seen across all grill and smoker subcategories, with gas grills leading in growth and dollar volume.

Commentary: “Outdoor grilling became an important part of meeting our food needs, our desire to be outside, and our desire to experiment with cooking during the pandemic. The past 12 months set a platform for growth for years to come – helping consumers as entertaining resumes and fostering ‘word of mouth’ endorsements that have the potential to fuel future growth,” said Joe Derochowski, Home Industry Advisor, The NPD Group.
