Unemployment remains low and steady

8/4/2019
Total nonfarm payroll employment rose by 164,000 in July, and the unemployment rate was unchanged at 3.7 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today.

Notable job gains occurred in professional and technical services, health care, social assistance, and financial activities.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, employment in construction, retail trade and wholesale trade changed little over the month.

The 164,000 new jobs in July was in line with average employment growth in the first 6 months of the year. In 2018, employment gains had averaged 223,000 per month.
