Readers Respond: Whacked with a 2x4? That's wack.

2/20/2018

There's nothing unusual about frivolous lawsuits in the 21st century. But depending on who you talk to, certain cases might outshine the rest in their ridiculousness.

In the hardware and lumber industry, the ongoing dispute over 2x4 dimensions -- and whether this constitutes false advertising -- seems to be taking the cake for now.

Earlier this week, we polled our readers, asking, "Of the following types of frivolous lawsuits, which one is the most distressing?"

"The 2x4 false advertising claim" has so far won 46% of the vote, with "the phony slip and fall" coming in second place at 24%.

Here's how the rest of the votes shook out:

The patent troll: 10%

The asbestos agitator: 1%

The product misuse plaintiff: 14%

Something else: 5%
