Obituary: Kamco founder "Jack" Sheehy

10/24/2008

Kamco Supply of New England has released the news that founder John William "Jack" Sheehy died on Oct. 17. Sheehy started the company after a 25-year career with United States Gypsum. He retired from USG in 1979 as northeast regional manager for USG Interiors, thereafter working for another 17 years to build Kamco. His son, Jay Sheehy, took the reins of the company in 1996.

Kamco is one of the largest pro dealers in the Northeast, selling building materials primarily to commercial accounts. There are related but independent Kamco companies based in Chester, Pa.; Brooklyn, N.Y.; Wallingford, Conn.; and Woburn, Mass. HCN estimates that, collectively, the four companies generated sales of $313 million in 2007. Jack Sheehy devoted his later career to developing several of these companies.
