8/8/2018
Maibec, the wood and building products manufacturer, has sold 2 of its sawmills to Groupe Lebel of Rivière-du-Loup.

The mills include locations in St-Pamphile, Quebec and Masardis, Maine. Combined, the mills employ 315 people who will maintain their jobs with Groupe Lebel. Both companies are private and terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Maibec said it will now focus on growing its pre-stained exterior siding’s systems based on lap sidings and shingles manufactured with solid wood or wood-based engineered material. The company recently announced the launching of the Maibec Resistech siding systems manufactured on LP SmartSide from Louisiana-Pacific.

“This transaction allows the Maibec employees who work in both sawmills to join a family owned Quebec company that is well established in the Lower St-Lawrence lumber industry,” said François Tardif, president of Maibec. “Group Lebel will continue to develop its sawmilling sector and will be able to face new challenges in this sector with renewed confidence.”

Based in Lévis, Quebec, Canada, Maibec manufactures wood sidings white cedar shingles. The company specializes in exterior siding systems

Group Lebel is a family business that has been working in forestry for over 60 years. Headquartered in Rivière-du-Loup in Lower St. Lawrence, Canada, the company maintains operations in 13 municipalities in Quebec and 2 in Ontario. Once this transaction is complete, the company will employ approximately 950 people.
