From Nov. 3 to 13, Home Depot is holding its annual Eco Options Christmas Light Trade-In event. Customers can bring in their old strings of holiday lights -- working or not -- and receive a coupon for up to $5 off the purchase of a new, energy-efficient LED light set.

This is the fourth year for the event, which recycles the old, traded-in lights, according to a company press release.

Customers are limited to five redemptions. They are eligible to receive:

• $3-off coupon toward the purchase of Home Accents Holiday string lights

• $4-off coupon toward the purchase of Martha Stewart Living or GE LED string lights

• $5-off coupon toward the purchase of EcoSmart or Lightshow LED lights

The offer is valid at all Home Depot stores in the United States.

"LED Christmas lights continue to be the growing trend in holiday decor," said Brad Whited, holiday decor merchant at Home Depot. "Since The Home Depot began selling LED Christmas lights in 2006, the technology has improved, and customers' interest in them continues to grow with sales increasing each of the past five years. Last year, The Home Depot sold more than 40,000 miles of light sets, enough to circle the globe 1.5 times."
