Here are the next three in the latest class of STIHL 2022 Hardware Store All Stars that represent community-oriented, customer-focused, high-performance hardware-and-building-supply retailing at its finest. From each of the 50 United States, HBSDealer recognized an All-Star performer.

You can read about all 50 honorees here in the digital issue of HBSDealer. Additionally, HBSDealer.com will highlight a handful of honorees one batch at a time. Three 2022 high performers from Maine, Maryland and Massachusetts are featured below.

Maine

Damariscotta Hardware

Since 1955, the Gardiner family and Damariscotta Hardware have served mid-coast Maine. Rob and his sister Susan Gardiner run their family business today, and they’re all about taking the panic out of the words, “some assembly required.” After a recent overhaul of their store, this authorized STIHL dealer is proud to be known as the place to go for all home repairs. The family said, from chain to pipe, or glass to screens, if it needs to be cut, trimmed, or fixed, we can do it.

Maryland

Clinton Do it Best Hardware

This retailer located in Clinton, Maryland, recently celebrated 75 years in business. The family-operated retailer, owned today by David Billman, first opened its doors in 1946. Waxing nostalgic on its website, many photos depict the business, including his father who bought Ripple Hardware in 1963. About today, David said, our employees have a willingness and ability to serve our customers’ problems whether the solution is in our store or not.

Massachusetts

Jed’s Hardware

Owner Jim Berube bought out his business partner in 2006. He turned a warehouse into 12,000 square feet of retail space and added a spacious outdoor greenhouse. A newer 8,000 square foot rental building complements YETI, Carhartt clothing and boots. Weber grills are in a year-round grill room, and their 70-foot wall of fastener drawers, is described as a “builder’s dream.” Berube said, “Jed’s won Best Hardware Store in Central Mass. for the fourth straight year.”
