Texas dealers give back

The Lumbermen’s Association of Texas and Community First! Village, announced LAT’s commitment to fund a home for a chronically homeless person.

"Texas dealers and their suppliers are invested in the communities where they do business and live,” said Jimmy Pate, President of the LAT Board of Directors and President of Pate’s Hardware, Inc.  “Our commitment to provide housing for a homeless Texan is an example of the ways our members serve communities across our state."

“We are thrilled that LAT is back to build a second home at Community First! Village and to support our mission to minister to the chronically homeless,” said Alan Graham, CEO, president and co-founder of Mobile Loaves & Fishes (MLF).  “We exist to love and serve our neighbors who have been living on the streets and LAT is a partner that shares our passion for their homeownership.”

Community First! Village is a 27-acre master planned development that provides affordable, permanent housing and a supportive community for the disabled chronically homeless in Central Texas.  It is a ministry led by the Austin-based non-profit MLF.

In 2016, LAT raised $15,000 to build the first LAT sponsored house; it is home to a Vietnam veteran who is also an avid woodworker.  The current goal is to raise $25,000.

“Since its beginnings over 130 years ago, LAT and its members, have maintained a commitment to supporting each other, our industry and the communities where we work, live and serve,” said Mireya Zapata, executive VP of LAT. “The LAT sponsored home is a continuation of our commitment to Texans’ values.”
