House looks to avoid government shutdown

The National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association (NLBMDA) reported that the House of Representatives passed a short-term continuing resolution to fund the federal government at current levels through Dec. 11.

The move is designed to avoid a government shutdown by the end of September.

The bill cleared the House by a bipartisan majority of 359-57 after Congressional Democrats and the White House reached an agreement on additional aid for agriculture producers and nutrition assistance for low-income Americans.

The legislation also includes a one-year extension of the National Flood Insurance Program as well as highway and transit programs.

The continuing resolution is expected to easily pass the Senate and be signed into law by President Trump in the near future.
