Golden Hammer strikes for innovative products
HBSDealer put out the call for best new products, and the industry delivered with a record number of entries for the latest class of Golden Hammer Award winners.
The process marks an enhancement and continuation of a decades-old tradition of honoring the best-of-the-best of the home improvement industry — from the best home center television commercials back in the early 1980s to Golden Hammer Retailers of the Year in the early 20th century.
“Our team revived the Golden Hammer Awards in 2019 to bring back the prestige of the award and recognize the high-quality innovation happening all around the hardware and building supply industry,” said Ken Clark, editor in chief of HBSDealer.
HBSDealer’s editorial staff solicited nominations from across the industry for potential honorees and products that have been launched after May 31, 2020.
The following criteria were used to judge each entry:
• Innovation — features, technology, differentiation and benefits;
• Value — Including relative price, consumer relevance, and functional practicality;
• Shelf appeal — clarity of message, and overall desirability of the product within its category.

Additionally, HBSDealer will lift its iconic Golden Hammer Awards to new, community-focused and service-oriented heights in 2023.
The Golden Hammer Products and Purpose Awards will for the first time will shine a golden spotlight on hardware and building supply dealers that give back to their communities and to society.
Timed to coincide in Las Vegas with the trio of major shows—the International Builders’ Show, KBIS and the National Hardware Show—The Golden Hammer Products and Purpose Awards welcomes retailers, suppliers, distributors and anyone with a stake in the home improvement industry and the communities it serves.
The event will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 1, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Resorts World Las Vegas, a brand new property just steps away from the new Las Vegas Convention Center.
“Everyone knows the Golden Hammer is an emblem of innovative products,” added HBSDealer’s Clark. “This year, we want to bring together the best of the best along with the golden hearts of the industry.”
