U.S. Lumber agrees to acquire NILCO

2/20/2018

Atlanta-based U.S. Lumber Group, the two-step building materials distributor in the Eastern United States has reached a deal to purchase NILCO, HBSDealer has learned.

The acquisition will bring 12 NILCO locations to US Lumber’s existing footprint of nine facilities. NICLO, based in Hartville, Ohio, brings a strong presence in the Midwest to U.S. Lumber’s strength in the East and Southeast. Nilco’s Gary, Indiana, location marks its westernmost location, and a significance westward expansion for U.S. Lumber.

The acquisition also reflects U.S. Lumber’s appetite for continued growth. In 2016, U.S. Lumber agreed to purchase Mansfield, Massachusetts-based Boston Cedar.

U.S. Lumber was created by a merger of Atlantic Trading Company of Alabama and Bestwood Forest Products of South Carolina.

The company operates distribution branches in Atlanta, Greenville, Raleigh, Nashville, Jacksonville, Central Florida, Mobile, Baltimore and Boston, and claims the largest and broadest inventory of specialty products in the industry.

NILCO – short for National Industrial Lumber Company – was formed in 1909, and was purchased by Robert D. Hoag in 1936, according to the company’s web site. It is a family owned company.
