Digger Specialties Inc. makes leadership moves

Chris Boyts joins as territory manager while Randy Freed takes over for Larry Burkholder as training manager.

Digger Specialties Inc. (DSI), the manufacturer of outdoor living building products, has made a series of leadership moves. 

Christopher “Chris” Boyts has been hired as Territory Manager – Building Products, Mid-Atlantic.  

Boyts brings years of sales experience including over six years as the New England Regional Territory Manager for O’Connor & Associates (OCA), a professional sales agency promoting DSI products. DSI said that Boyts brings a wealth of product knowledge to the position due to his work at OCA, allowing him to be an immediate asset to our customers. 

“We are excited to welcome Chris to the DSI Building Products team in the Eastern United States.  Chris joins the team including John Finnegan (Northeast) and Jack Medford (Southeast)” said Pat Gallagher, DSI director of sales – building products, Eastern US.

Boyts will be based in the Mid-Atlantic region giving him access to customers in the states of Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and eastern Tennessee.

DSI has also promoted Randy Freed to training manager.  

Freed began his career with DSI in March of 2010 and served as a driversSupervisor at the Bremen, Indiana plant. In that position, Freed was responsible for dispatching drivers, handling on-the-road issues, and customer support. 

In his new role, Freed will manage the DSI Training Trailer program, traveling across the country to train DSI customers, including lumberyards, retailers, builders, and installers of DSI products. 

The manufacturer said Freed brings valuable customer service experience to the role of training manager. Freed will be training with Larry Burkholder through the end of February as Larry prepares for his retirement from DSI after 18 years.

Burkholder will officially retire as Training Manager at DSI,  effective March 3. He has been with DSI for over 18 years and began his career helping to start the company’s first powder coating line. He then transitioned to product manager and then training manager. 

During his time as training manager, Burkholder traveled thousands of miles and conducted hundreds of training sessions for customers as well as their customers across the United States.  

The company said, “Larry will be missed by his DSI family, and we wish him well as he begins a new journey.”

Based in Bremen, DSI manufactures aluminum and vinyl railing; aluminum and vinyl fencing;  gates; composite, aluminum, and fiberglass architectural columns; and outdoor lighting.
