Costello’s Ace buys Warrenville Paint and Hardware

Costello’s Ace Hardware has acquired Bill and Michele MacDonald’s Warrenville Paint and Hardware store in Warren, New Jersey.

Costello’s will now operate 49 retail locations in five eastern states.

The store will continue to operate as Warrenville Paint and Hardware. Bill MacDonald will continue to be involved as a member of the Costello’s Ace team, servicing the current commercial accounts.

“I have tremendous respect for the business that Bill and his family have built,” said Michael Costello, Costello’s CEO, describing Warrenville Hardware.

Bill MacDonald originally opened the doors of Warrenville Paint and Hardware to the residents of Warren back in 1977.

“Having opened Warrenville Hardware during the same period my father was first getting into the hardware business, I know that the economic conditions were not kind,” said Costello.

Founded on the principle of providing friendly and personalized customer service, Warrenville Paint and Hardware has been a staple in the Warren community for contractors and DIYers alike. 

“Bill’s dedication to serving, perseverance, and leadership not only secured his store’s survival, but has built an iconic brand and beacon in the community,” Costello said.

Talking about the purchase, MacDonald said, “Costello’s was the best fit for us – they are family owned, and we share the same values: Quality, community and service. This made for an obvious choice for our team, customers and community."

Founded by Vincent Costello in 1973 on the principles of problem-solving, building great relationships, and continuous growth and improvement, Costello’s has locations in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia.
