On Cape Cod, a boat raffle

3/11/2021
A worthy cause, for an historic sea-worthy replica.

Mid-Cape Home Centers has donated the materials for the remake of an historic Mayflower-era boat,  and has offered to assist the beneficiary, Cape Cod Children's Museum, with the raffle sales.

The effort is part Cape Associates annual effort to design and build an out-of-the-ordinary children’s playhouse, used not only for childhood enjoyment, but to raise funds for local non-profits. This year, Cape Associates decided to replicate the historic Elizabeth Tilley Shallop, a small boat carried over on the Mayflower and used to enter what is now known as Provincetown Harbor.

The home center’s announcement reads: “With all the hardship that took place over the past year, it is estimated by the Association of Children’s Museums that 30% of children’s museums will never reopen. With fear of the local museum not surviving this year full of countless unforeseen challenges, Mid-Cape and Cape Associates decided on Cape Cod Children’s Museum as the beneficiary of the 2021 playhouse.”

The Boat Playhouse will be traveling to all Mid-Cape locations and the Cape Cod Children’s Museum for viewing. Raffle tickets are for sale here.
