Brownsboro Hardware & Paint, located in Louisville, Ky., has a new owner.

Do it Best member-owners Jim and Marilyn Lehrer sold the popular two-location business to their trusted store manager Doug Carroll.

“Doug has been with us for more than two decades, and he knows the business. It’s in good hands, both now and in the future,” they said.

As part of the arrangement, Lehrer will remain at Brownsboro Hardware & Paint for at least a year to ease the transition. “The difference,” Lehrer joked, “is that I’ll only have to work 40 hours a week, instead of 60 to 70.”

Carroll said he intends to continue the stores’ community involvement.

Philanthropic efforts, such as their wildly successful EGGFest, an event now in its 12th year that raises money to feed the hungry, will continue, they said, and added that there will be no changes to the staff.

“I started working here at Brownsboro Hardware & Paint when I was 16,” said new owner Carroll. “I have watched Jim and Marilyn run this business with integrity and passion for our customers.”

“I have learned from the best, and I intend to continue to maintain and grow the legacy that is Brownsboro Hardware & Paint,” related Carroll.

Jim Lehrer was a member of the Do it Best board of directors for nine years, including two as board chair. Before owning Brownsboro Hardware & Paint, he was an executive with Our Own Hardware before it merged with HWI and became Do it Best.

“After 23 years in the business here and decades in the hardware business, we decided it was time for a change,” said Lehrer.

“While we had interest from several out-of-state owners, we wanted ownership to stay local,” they noted.

Known for their product quality and tremendous service, Brownsboro Hardware & Paint recently celebrated its 61st anniversary.
