Pioneer Hardware of Beverly Hills, Calif.
Pioneer Hardware, a Beverly Hills hardware store, was recently described in the Los Angeles Times as “very much one of those soothing, enticing emporiums in which you can fulfill every DIY need, including the therapeutic effects of a good browsing session.”
The hardware store, a member of the Fort Wayne, Ind.-based Do it Best co-op, also has attracted over the years some high-profile customers. Charge card plates at the store have the names: Gene Kelly, Rosemary Clooney, Jack Lemon, Milton Berle and George Burns.
Those are just some of the Hollywood stars who have shopped the Beverly Hills store since its inception in 1926. According to the article, the staff doesn’t like to talk about its current famous customers. (“The best way to serve them is not to talk about them,” said manager Ryan Hudson.)
