The May 9, 1994 issue of National Home Center News, the forerunner of HBSDealer, included an advertisement for Hardware Wholesale Inc., the forerunner of Do it Best Corp. The ad features a family -- Bob and Karolyn McDaniel and son -- celebrating a six-figure rebate for McDaniel's Do-it center in Snohomish, Wash.
Nothing unusual there. But look closer. The youngest McDaniel in the photo is Brad McDaniel, who with 25 years of additional retail seasoning now serves as chairman of the Do it Best Board of Directors.
McDaniel also represented McDaniel's Do-it center during a Golden Hammer award ceremony and panel discussion in 2012. Here are the highlights of that discussion.
