Shoppers are primed for 72 hours of deals

The multi-billion-dollar spending spree known as Amazon Prime Day will take flight June 21 and 22. But Amazon.com is not the only digital home for 48 hours of online bargains.

Ace Hardware is bringing back its Ace Rewards Day for the third straight year. The event will feature exclusive online deals and special bonus offers for Ace Rewards Members.

"Ace Rewards Day is a great way for us to give back to our loyal customers by offering valuable discounts on tens of thousands of products," said Bill Kiss, head of digital, Ace Hardware Corporation. "With home preservation projects and summer grilling in full swing, we are excited to say 'thank you' to our customers with these exclusive online deals and discounts."

This year’s Amazon Prime Day event fall closely on the heels of Father’s Day, which has a long tradition of boosting sales at hardware stores. Father’s Day falls on June 20, and big names in the hardware retailing sector seem to be emphasizing marketing around Father’s Day.

In addition to Ace’s June 21-22 special sale, Ace Hardware stores are also heavily into Father’s Day specials.

Statistics from Adobe Digital Experience Index (DEI)show that more than half (58%) of respondents to a survey of 1,000 U.S. adults plan to shop online during Prime Day.

The DEI expects total U.S. online spend for Prime Day (June 21-22) will surpass Cyber Monday 2020, when U.S. e-commerce hit $10.9 billion to become the biggest shopping day of all time in the U.S. This will also exceed the $10.4 billion in estimated U.S. sales during the October 2020 edition of Prime Day.

A separate recent study also shows big numbers in store for Father’s Day spending. Consumers are planning to spend about $107 each on Father’s Day, up 16% from a year ago, according to the RetailMeNot web site.

According to a new study from online discounts and deals platform RetailMeNot, consumers are planning on spending an average of $107 each on Father’s Day this year, a 16% increase from the average $89 spent per consumer in 2020.

Millennials in particular are planning to splurge on the holiday. Members of this age group will spend an average of $135 on a Father’s Day gifts this year, which is more than any other generation and 52% higher than the overall average spend from 2020. 

Also, 38% of consumers plan on purchasing gift cards (compared to 40% in 2020).
