Riverhead Building Supply announced that it is entering Massachusetts through the acquisition of Mozzone Lumber Company in Taunton.

In a statement issued by Riverhead, the Calverton, N.Y.-based pro dealer said its first location in Massachusetts “will significantly enhance the company’s ability to service the high-end, quality-oriented customers in the southeastern (Mass.) market where Mozzone Lumber has enjoyed a strong presence for years.”

Riverhead operates 18 lumber and building materials locations in New York, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. The acquisition was effective Aug. 25. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Riverhead has built a reputation on quality and service,” said Joe Mozzone, president of Mozzone Lumber. “They recognize the importance of putting good people in front of a customer and that’s been central to the success of Mozzone Lumber since the business was started by my grandfather 74 years ago.”

Upon completion of the transition, Mozzone is expected to remain active in the business. Riverhead will look to maintain Mozzone Lumber employees to continue the customer service their market has come to expect.

The deal is expected to close in the next 60 days upon the completion of due diligence, according to Riverhead.

“Mozzone Lumber is a strong company, with a history of meeting the needs and expectations of their customers,” said John Callahan, president of Riverhead Building Supply. “They are respected in the industry and enjoy close relationships with their customers. We are excited to be entering into Massachusetts with the leadership of Joe Mozzone, his management team, and the dedicated employees of Mozzone Lumber.”
