Operation: Military Influence

Ken Clark

There’s no doubt about it, the hardware and building supply industry is friendly to the armed service members. Whether its contributions to veteran causes (like this), special parking, discounts or any number of other gestures of support.

There’s also no doubt that the experience of serving in the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force or Marines can serve as a powerful force in the career of a veteran.

Two years ago, HBSDealer solicited – and received – insights on how a military career can influence an executive’s career in hardware and building supply. The stories of True Value’s Tim Mills, LBM Advantage’s Steve Sallah and Michael Cassidy, currently of Integrated Building Products, made for inspirational reading.

More recently, HBSDealer offered insights into veteran hiring and military programs at Home Depot, Lowe’s, 84 Lumber, BMC, ABC Supply and others.

HBSDealer is again assailing the topic. We’re looking for a few more good stories from veterans on lessons they’ve learned in the military and applied to their current positions.

Share them here. And thank you for your service.
