NPD Stat of the Week: Lawn action

A 23% growth in sales in the 12 months ending March 2021.
5/18/2021

STAT: Total lawn and garden dollar sales grew 23% in the 12 months ending March 2021, compared to the prior year, with gains across brick and click. While still representing a much smaller portion of total lawn and garden sales, online has gained considerable traction this past year, nearly doubling the prior year’s sales.

Commentary: "During the pandemic we looked to activities like baking cookies, watching TV, and working on our lawn and garden as ways to battle boredom while at home. Lawn and garden improvements provided an activity, a way to spruce up our space, allowed us to be outside. This value proposition, coupled with online shopping innovations, created a willingness among consumers to shop all options,” said Joe Derochowski, Home Industry Advisor, The NPD Group.
