NPD Stat of the Week: $100 per buyer

More buyers, larger baskets add up to lawn and garden sales growth.
6/15/2021

STAT: Total lawn and garden sales growth driven from an increase in both number of buyers and spend per buyer versus a year ago – the number of buyers increased five points which equates to roughly 12M new buyers, and the average spend of around $100 per buyer was supported by increased frequency and spend per purchase.

Commentary: “Lawn and garden projects became a great and scalable source of activity for U.S. consumers looking to get outdoors and get creative. Layer on the satisfaction and sense of pride that comes over time after such improvements – big or small – and it’s no surprise that both new and existing consumers invested in these products,” said Joe Derochowski, Home Industry Advisor, The NPD Group.
