Claire Yu, USG Corporation's research and development program manager at USG’s Corporate Innovation Center in Libertyville, Illinois, has been recognized for her achievements in STEM.

Yu was named by The Manufacturing Institute as an honoree of its fourth annual Science, Technology, Engineering and Production (STEP) Ahead Awards. The award recognizes 130 women who have achieved manufacturing excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering and Production.

“We are excited that Claire has earned recognition by The Manufacturing Institute for the positive impact she has made on our company and the industry as a whole,” said Dom Dannessa, executive VP, chief operations and innovation officer at USG. “As a company that values people with diverse experiences, such as Claire, we are committed to attracting, advancing and retaining strong female talent, and increasing the number of women in manufacturing.”

A veteran of USG for more than a decade, Yu has been a driving force in a great deal of innovation at the company. She is an inventor on six U.S. patents earned while at USG, which adds to the company’s roster of nearly 2,000 U.S. and international patents. In addition, Yu is an active member of USG’s WomenRock! Employee Resource Group.

“I’m grateful to be recognized by an organization that encourages women to pursue careers in manufacturing,” said Yu. “The STEP Ahead initiative’s focus on mentoring the next generation of women to become manufacturing leaders is something I value on a professional and personal level.”

Outside of USG, Yu is a member of the American Chemical Society and has participated in the United Way Speaker Initiative, where she works to inspire young women to pursue STEM and manufacturing careers.
