Tractor Supply Company is taking its global footprint very seriously.

The farm and ranch retailer has released its 2017 Stewardship Report, which highlights the company’s commitment to becoming a more environmentally sustainable company. And last year the Brentwood, Tenn.-based company made good on a number of sustainability goals.

About 96 million kilowatt hours were saved through Tractor Supply’s Energy Management System while 540 stores converted to LED lighting. The latter completed a conversion at all Tractor Supply stores. The company also collected nearly 85,000 gallons of oil from customers for recycling along with nearly 628,000 vehicle batteries.

Other moves included recycling 3.6 million wood pallets and almost 27,000 tons of cardboard.

“For Tractor Supply’s team members and our customers, living sustainably is not just a concept but a way of life that we are proud to be honoring by making changes that have a positive impact on our environment,” said Ben Parrish, executive vp, general counsel and corporate secretary of Tractor Supply. Parrish also leads the company’s stewardship program.

“In addition to offering an increasing array of products and programs to support sustainable living, we are excited about the strides Tractor Supply is making toward environmental sustainability,” he said. “Our Stewardship Program focuses on helping our neighbors and protecting the land and natural resources we have now, while teaching the next generation to do the same, so they too can enjoy Life Out Here.”

Tractor Supply’s Stewardship Program was launched in 2008 and achievements in the past year extended beyond environmental goals.

Nearly $2 million was raised for local 4-H Clubs through the bi-annual “Paper Clover” events with 90% of the money remaining in the state where it was collected. Another $1.5 million was raised and awarded in the form of 600 grants to FFA chapters across the country through the “Grants for Growing” fundraiser in 2017 and 2018.

Tractor Supply also facilitated the adoption of more than 16,000 pets through community events at stores and at Petsense locations, a subsidiary of the company.

Now in its 80th year of business, Tractor Supply Company operates 1,700 Tractor Supply stores in 49 states and 172 Petsense locations in 27 states.
