Throwback Thursday: When paint went digital
Some of the things we now take for granted about the paint industry were, at one point, considered cutting edge.
Take digital color identification, for example.
In the Oct. 2, 2006 edition of Home Channel News, the predecessor to HBSDealer, a leading feature mused that "technology changes the way we paint."
In the above photo, a Pantone executive demonstrated the use of the ColorQue2, a device that can quickly identify any of 2,000 Pantone colors.
Dealers also testified to the introduction of new technology in their paint aisles.
"They're going online. They're using the shelter magazines. They're seeing it a lot on the home and garden channel," said Steve Ozab, co-owner of Santa Barbara-based Goleta Valley Paint. "They're no longer intimidated...they do come in with printouts of colors from online, magazine pages."
