Throwback Thursday: Steve Garvey's pitch

There was a time when Steve Garvey was one of the most recognizable players in baseball. There was also a time when Paramount was America's leading maker of electric nylon cord trimmers.

That time was 1979, when both teamed up for an ad in the June 4 issue of National Home Center News, the forerunner of HBSDealer.

The full page age promoted the Chatsworth, California-based company's television blitz, and the concept that 1979 would be the "biggest year yet for Nylon Cord Trimmer sales."

Paramount was a division of Allegretti & Co., which was acquired by Poulan. Garvey finished his career 80th on the career hits list.
