REPORT: Brown Building Materials says goodbye to Spokane

8/8/2019
After serving the Spokane, Wash. area since 1959, Brown Building Materials is closing shop.

The company has been in the new and used building materials business for 60 years but announced on its Facebook page “that with a heavy heart and yet an optimistic eye to the future” it would cease operations. This month, the company’s posts on Facebook resemble an online garage sale of hardware, plumbing, racking and rugs.

According to a report in the Spokesman-Review, owner Ron Brown plans to retire after the business shuts down in October.

Brown Building Materials was founded by Brown’s father, Richard, with Ron taking over the business in 2000 following a devastating fire.

The business originally had a focus on used building materials. But once the company was forced to rebuild nearly 20 years ago, new merchandise was brought on board, including home goods.
