Poll Question: Tell it to the Judge

The National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association is fighting to protect dealers from frivolous and unjustified lawsuits.

Here's what the Washington, D.C.-based association says in its latest policy agenda: "NLBMDA supports efforts that limit frivolous lawsuits and that penalize those who file baseless claims as a means to extract settlements from innocent parties."

Jimmy Pate, president of the Lumbermen’s Association of Texas Board of Directors and President of Pate’s Hardware, Inc. recently promoted legal reforms in Texas with a group of like-minded dealers. “These reforms would not only help stop frivolous claims, they will help Texas dealers and suppliers potentially avoid the significant cost and time involved with certain lawsuits."

And round the industry, the horror story of the unjustified lawsuit haunts many  hardware and building supply dealers.

The latest HBSDealer poll question seeks to add some clarity to the extent of the problem. It asks: "Has your business ever been targeted with an unjustified lawsuit, or the threat of an unjustified lawsuit?"

The poll is open on the right side of the screen (or scroll down your mobile device).
