Poll question: Holiday business

12/3/2019
The holiday shopping statistics are piling up. After gaining 2.3% on Thanksgiving Day, shopper traffic at brick-and-mortar retail outlets declined 6.2% year over year on Black Friday, according to the latest data from ShopperTrak.

Meanwhile, online sales hit a record $7.4 billion on Black Friday, the traditional launch of the holiday retail season and the busiest shopping day of the year, says Adobe Analytics.

Fiserv's SpendTrend Holiday Snapshot saw a 4.2% year-over-year growth in total Black Friday brick-and-mortar spending.

Many Cyber Monday tallies are still tabulating. But they are expected to surpass last year’s $7.9 billion in online sales – the highest-single day amount ever for online shopping.

ShopperTrak's Brian Field, senior director of global retail consulting said: “Shopping in physical stores during the holidays continues to be an exciting annual event for consumers. With eight of the 10 predicted busiest shopping days still to come, including Super Saturday, which will fall on Dec. 21 this year, retailers are in for a successful holiday season."

There’s a lot of money changing hands in December, bringing HBSDealer to this week’s poll question: What is your business doing differently this holiday season?
