NRF elects Kip Tindell as chairman

The National Retail Federation has a new chairman in Kip Tindell, who is also chairman and CEO of The Container Store.

This won’t be the first time Tindell has been involved with the NRF board. Most recently, he served as first vice chairman of the board, chairman of the finance committee and treasurer from 2012 to 2014.

“I can’t fathom spending my career doing anything but retail,” said Tindell. “I believe with my heart and soul it’s the world’s greatest profession and I cannot tell you how thrilled and honored I am to have this opportunity to give back to this industry that has brought so much joy and fulfillment to my life.”

In addition to assuming the role of chairman at the NRF’s board of directors, Tindell will also serve as chairman of its executive committee. He will serve a two-year term together with HSNi CEO Mindy Grossman, who was also named vice chairman of the board.

“NRF, its staff and the industry at large will benefit greatly from Kip’s dedication, professionalism and leadership over the next two years as we already have for the time he’s been a part of NRF’s board of directors,” NRF president and CEO Matthew Shay said. “We are honored to welcome our new chairman and our newly – and re-elected board members as we continue to work with Capitol Hill on policies that directly impact one of the biggest industries in the world, while simultaneously learning more about the constantly-changing retail landscape.”

Tindell was elected to his new post at the NRF’s board of directors meeting held Sunday in New York during NRF’s 104th Annual Convention and EXPO.

“Since we founded The Container Store nearly 37 years ago, we’ve worked to build a business where everyone associated with it thrives – all of our stakeholders – our employees, customers, vendors, the community and our shareholders,” said Tindell. “But I believe this shouldn’t just be The Container Store’s story. In one of my capacities as the incoming chairman of the NRF, I want to make this a retail story – a story of what’s possible when we put people first, when we focus on culture and values. I look forward to elevating what makes us great as an industry and in turn, making businesses better, our communities better and our country a better place to live and to work. What’s good for retail is good for everyone.”
