Lowe’s shutting down Iris

2/4/2019
As it continues to reshuffle its business deck, Lowe’s Home Improvement said that it will exit its Iris smart home platform by the end of March 2019.

In the announcement, posted on its site dedicated to Iris, Lowe’s said the system will be shut down by March 31 along with any related services. The retailer also said customers should not bring their connected Iris devices back to Lowe’s stores.

Rather, the company has created an online redemption process that will allow customers who have eligible, connected Iris devices to receive a Visa prepaid card to help with migrating to another smart home platform. All Iris customers must complete the process by the March deadline.

Customers can also return any Iris items they have purchased within the last 90 days that are not connected to the Iris platform via Lowe’s normal return policy.

Lowe’s stopped charging customer for the Iris service as of Jan. 31.

This is the latest step in a series moves by Lowe’s designed to return focus to its core sales and services.

In the past year, Lowe’s closed all 99 of its Orchard Supply stores and then revealed that it was closing 47 stores in the U.S. and Canada while exiting its business in Mexico . The company is also exiting some of its internal design services.

All of the moves, along with key executive changes, have occurred since president and CEO Marvin Ellison took over as Lowe’s top executive in July 2018.
