Kodiak Building Partners acquires Christensen Lumber

11/18/2019
Kodiak Building Partners has acquired Christensen Lumber of Fremont, Neb.

Tom Christensen, who held the title of acting CEO prior to the acquisition, will continue as president of Christensen Lumber. The pro dealer will join the Building Materials Group at Kodiak Building Partners and will be under the direction of Mark Garboski.

Christensen Lumber was founded in 1923 and was one of the first businesses to establish itself in Fremont. The company has 250 employees. From 1978 until the sale to Kodiak, the company was owned by Tom's father, David Christensen.

“By no accident, Christensen Lumber has become a leader in the Midwest for engineered wood building components, millwork, and lumber sales. Hard work, deliberate planning, investments, and execution led us to this juncture, and Kodiak is perfectly positioned to allow us to continue on our successful journey and help us keep our focus on our areas of expertise,” said Tom Christensen.

Along with its yard and a showroom in Freemont, the company operates showrooms and sales offices in Omaha and Lincoln. Christensen also operates Kansas City Components in Spring Hill, Kansas.

“I’m so pleased to have the opportunity to join the Christensen family in serving their midwestern markets.  The values represented by Christensen and the communities they serve…family, hard work, and humility, are ones we share,” said Steve Swinney, Kodiak’s CEO.

“Tom has led his family’s business to new heights and has thoughtfully planned out Christensen’s bright future.  We feel fortunate to partner with such a fine company and its exceptional employees.  Great things will continue to happen at Christensen!”

Based in Littleton, Col., Kodiak Building Partners operates 71 locations in Texas, Florida, Colorado, Arizona, Delaware, Massachusetts, Michigan, Washington, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Maryland.
