American Hardwood Info Center launches species app

The app allows users to compare species of woods when planning projects.

BY HBSDealer Staff

The American Hardwood Information Center has introduced its American Hardwoods Species Guide Mobile App.

The app is free and assists users in choosing the hardwood species that is best for particular projects.

The reference guide app is available at www.hardwoodinfo.com and provides information about the most abundant American hardwood species including availability, physical and working characteristics, strength and mechanical properties, and typical applications of each. The app also allows users to compare species when being considered for projects.

A stain simulator also displays the species in clear, light, medium, and dark finishes to help visualize stain combinations of flooring, cabinetry, moulding, and furniture co-existing in a single design space. And Species profiles include images featuring the wood in finished applications.

The American Hardwood Information Center is the authoritative resource for consumers and professionals seeking information about American Hardwoods. With the goal of promoting the use of American Hardwood products ranging from flooring, cabinetry and furniture, to millwork and building materials in both residential and commercial applications, the center offers advice from industry experts on design trends, care and maintenance, installation, finishing, and professional specifying.

Roofing consultants join forces

Bluefin acquires Delaware-based Professional Roof Services.

BY HBSDealer Staff

Bluefin, the nationwide consulting company for commercial roofs, pavement, and building envelope management, acquired Professional Roof Services, a Delaware-based roof consulting company.

“We’re pleased to welcome PRSI’s exceptional team of experienced roof consultants with an outstanding technical ability to Bluefin, and for the opportunity to serve PRSI’s customers and communities,” said Richard Rast, president of Bluefin. “We’re committed to PRSI’s growth through expanded service offerings, and we are expecting powerful synergy between our teams to greatly benefit clients.”

Blaine Chipola, PRSI president, founded the company in 1993.

PRSI serves dozens of Mid-Atlantic clients in healthcare, government, education, pharmaceuticals and commercial property management. BLUEFIN’s extensive experience with similar clients across North America and its Maryland office makes this a pertinent transaction.

“This is a great fit for PRSI as we looked for a company that values our employees and customers and provides strong support,” said Chipola. “Bluefin’s large support group allows our team to expand our presence and service offerings in roofing, pavement, and building envelope and continue delivering quality projects to new and existing clients.”

The move marks Bluefin’s second acquisition since it closed on CyberCon Consulting last year. The purchase follows Bluefin’s office expansion in Dallas-Fort Worth and growing presence in the Pacific Northwest, the company said.

IBP acquires Raleigh roofing, gutter installer

The acquisition of Trademark Roofing and Gutters marks IBP’s entry into Raleigh, N.C.

BY HBSDealer Staff

Installed Building Products, Inc. (IBP) has acquired Trademark Roofing and Gutters.

Trademark has two locations in the Raleigh, N.C. market. Founded in 1996, Trademark provides roofing and gutter installation services primarily to the new residential construction market and has annual revenue of approximately $9 million.

The purchase marks IBP’s first purchase in the roofing installation end market.

In a statement issued by IBP, the company said, “This is part of our longstanding strategy to add complementary installation services that expands our end markets and deepens our relationship with builders. Raleigh is a great market for IBP to expand into roofing, as we now offer local builders installation services including insulation, blinds, garage doors, gutters and roofing.”

In 2018, IBP has closed 8 acquisitions representing about $52 million in acquired revenue. The Columbus, Ohio-based company also said that acquisitions remain a key component of its growth plan.

IBP is one of the nation’s largest insulation installers for the residential new construction market and a diversified installer of complementary building products, including waterproofing, fire-stopping and fireproofing, garage doors, rain gutters, shower doors, closet shelving and mirrors.

Last month IBP acquired Cutting Edge Glass, a provider of glass and glazing services to the commercial construction market with annual sales of $10 million.
