84 Lumber celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Joe Hardy/84 Lumber golf invitational earlier this week in honor of the company’s ongoing partnership with the Boy Scouts of America Westmoreland-Fayette Council.

The Greensburg, Pa.-based outfit has received more than $2.4 million from 84 Lumber since 1989, including a donation of more than $144,800 at this year’s event. The funds have helped build programs that teach scouts valuable life lessons and leadership skills.

“The Joe Hardy/84 Lumber Invitational continues to be one of our largest philanthropic events of the year,” said Maggie Hardy, president of 84 Lumber. “When my father co-started this event 30 years ago, he didn’t realize the impact it would have on the local Boy Scouts community and how it would change the lives of many young people for the better. It’s truly an honor to continue supporting their cause and watching these scouts go on to do incredible things.”

The invitational was held at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort — 84 Lumber’s sister company — in Farmington, Pa., Aug. 18–20. The event culminated with a dinner reception and check presentation. More than 300 attendees were on hand, including troop leaders and scouts from the Westmoreland-Fayette Council, as well as various 84 Lumber associates and vendors.

“84 Lumber has been very critical to the success of the Westmoreland-Fayette Council,” said Martin Barbie, scout executive. “Over the last 30 years that they’ve been supporting our program, they’ve had an impact on over 150,000 young people.”

84 Lumber created a video about the partnership and the event.

In addition to the Westmoreland-Fayette Council, 84 Lumber also supports the Boy Scouts on a national scale. In 2018, the company donated nearly $60,000 in materials to Boy Scout projects across the country.

Of note: 84 Lumber also named Boise Cascade its 2019 Vendor of the Year at the ceremony. The recognition is based on various factors, including sales growth and above-and-beyond service, the company said.

Based in in Eighty Four, Pa., 84 Lumber operates about 250 stores, component manufacturing plants, custom door shops, custom millwork shops and engineered wood product centers in more than 30 states. 84 Lumber also offers turnkey installation services for a variety of products, including framing, insulation, siding, windows, roofing, decking and drywall.
