NLBMDA examines wage-and-hours rules

2/20/2018

The National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association will host a webinar on recent wage-and-hours rule proposals.

The webinar was spurred by The Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division, which has released a proposal to increase the salary levels that determine employee exemption from overtime pay.

Under the proposal, salaried employees making less than $50,440 per year would be eligible for overtime pay. The current trigger is $23,660 -- if they make more than that, they aren’t eligible for overtime.

Wage and Hour has also released an interpretation of the 6 factors it will use to determine if workers are properly classified as independent contractors rather than employees. According to the NLBMDA, every employer should be aware of the proposed rule and the new interpretation that will affect the LBM industry.

Dates for the Webinar – free for NLBMDA members – are Oct. 6 (2 to 3 p.m.) and Oct. 8 (3 to 4 p.m.)

Frank Moore, NLBMDA’s Regulatory Counsel will present the webinar. For more information, visit here.
