SEC All Stars: Florida, South Carolina and Georgia
It takes a little more to be a Stihl Hardware All Star.
Each year, HBSDealer solicits nominations from readers and the industry for Hardware All Stars.
And each year, we’re rewarded with a fresh class of high-performing, community-minded, service-oriented businesses worthy of the honor.
During the course of our research, we’ve met dealers who take risks, inspire staff and lift communities — or have what we call the All Star spirit.

Florida
Proctor Ace Hardware
This Neptune Beach All Star with deep roots in the Sunshine State was one of four Ace retailers to earn “Coolest Store in Town” honors for 2018. The 23,600-sq.-ft. beach-themed location takes pride in matching its product mix with the coastal community it serves. Third-generation co-owner Joe Proctor points to hand carved wooden signs from a local vendor discovered at an art walk as an example of the “cool, unique and different” vibe in the store.
South Carolina
Palmetto Home Center
“Think Big, Shop Small” is PHC’s mantra. Like a true independent retailer, Summerville-based Palmetto customizes its product and service mix to meet the needs of Lowcountry customers. Co-owner Donnie Canaday and his staff are renowned for going the extra yard. When a customer’s new Gravely ZT 48 XL mower stopped mowing when the tension spring broke, Canaday drove out to the customer to replace the spring, and then sharpened and balanced the blades for good measure.
Georgia
Southern Builders Supply
Southern Builders Supply was originally known as Naval Stores Suppliers, Inc. Founded in 1945, the business met demand for supplies needed for naval operations, such as metal cups, gutters, nails and metal rosin drums, all used in the turpentine process. Located in Valdosta, Ga., Southern Builders is a full line building supply store for the commercial and residential contractors, along with DIYers serving south Georgia and north Florida. The Orgill member offers installed sales, including windows and doors, fireplaces and garages.
