People of the Year: Jim Smith

Central Network Retail Group has been on an expansion streak, and guiding that process has been Jim Smith, who has been at the helm of the company as it builds a multi-brand national business, one store at a time.

In recent months, CNRG acquired Moncks Corner-based Central True Value, opened a new Home Hardware Center in Monroe, La., and relocated two stores in Texas and North Carolina. It’s also in the midst of planning a new Parkrose Hardware store.

A 35-year veteran of the industry, Smith grew his own business, Home Hardware Center, with a focus on small towns and their needs. CNRG’s model helps dealers by investing in key inventory areas, allowing them to improve their in-stock position and serve local customers.
