Meet the Class of 2016 All Stars

2/20/2018

Since 2011, HBSDealer has reached out to suppliers, manufacturers, vendors, retailers and home owners in search of high-performing, service-oriented, community-minded hardware stores, lumberyards or farm and ranch dealers worthy of All Star status.

Look who we found in 2016. These businesses have been vetted and approved for All Stardom.

Our annual All Star issue appeared earlier this month, and we’ll continue to recognize our honorees three-at-a-time in our digital products, beginning with these honorees:

West Virginia

S.J. Neathawk Lumber

S.J. Neathawk founded the lumber company that bears his name in 1947. In 2001, daughter Janet took over and built a new 125,000 square foot location. With Janet’s sons Douglass and Sean Goodwin on board, the dealer known for its beautiful showroom and yard continues to grow. “I feel strongly that the right thing to do is to carry on my dad’s tradition,” Janet said.

Wisconsin

Charlie’s Hardware & Rental

As a third generation, family owned retail hardware store, Charlie’s sells power equipment, large appliances, guns and sporting goods. They also offer the area’s largest variety of Milwaukee power tools. When Charlie’s Hardware & Rental opened in 1957, it was one of six hardware stores in town. Today it is the last one standing.

Wyoming

Valley Hardware

Valley Hardware is a prototypical small town hardware store, which means it understands the needs of its customers. To that end, owners Todd and Deb Clifford carry a diverse product selection like no other store in the area, from potting soil to Pop Tarts. “Our slogan is, ‘if we don’t have it we will do our best to get it for you!” Deb Clifford said.
