Leadership moves at Costello’s Ace Hardware

Deer Park, New York-based Costello’s Ace Hardware has undergone a leadership transition, with Michael Costello taking the reigns as CEO.


In June 2016, the founder of the now 25-store iconic Long Island hardware chain, Vincent “Vinnie” Costello lost his battle with cancer. The promotion of Michael Costello, and other executive moves at the company, are part of a prearranged transition plan.


Michael Costello, 48, steps into the role of CEO, he previously served as president of the chain since 2001.


“I’m honored to have been chosen to lead one of the most talented and passionate Ace Hardware retail chains in the industry,” he said. “Growing up, my father taught my brothers and I the importance of taking care of our customers and employees, and I look forward to carrying on his legacy for years to come. While Costello’s will never be the same without my father, we will continue to advance the business through visionary leadership, in his memory.”


In addition, Costello’s Ace Hardware promoeted the following executives, all of whom will report directly to Michael Costello:


•Dan Costello, 43, has been appointed to the position of VP merchandising, inventory and IT, in which he will continue to oversee purchasing, inventory control and technology for the organization.


• Art Freedman, 65, has been named VP of retail pricing and program development for Costello’s Ace Hardware. In this role, Freedman is responsible for all pricing, non-retail income, special marketing projects, strategic planning and customer service/leadership training for Costello’s Ace Hardware.



• Jaime Maloney, 40, has been promoted to the position of president of Costello’s Ace Hardware. In her new role, Maloney will  oversee marketing in addition to her current responsibilities with finance, human resources and corporate relations.


• Rocky Vitale, 60, has been promoted to the position of executive VP of Costello’s Ace Hardware. In his new position, Vitale will continue to oversee store operations, facilities, LP/safety, visual merchandising, B2B sales and the growing responsibilities of warehousing/distribution and project management. Additionally, he will serve on Costello’s board of directors.
