Busy Beaver opens in Grove City
Pittsburgh-based Busy Beaver has opened a 50,000 square-foot location in Grove City, Pa. The Grove City store is the first of five new Busy Beaver locations planned for opening in 2018.
The new home improvement center brings approximately 20 new full-time and 10-15 part-time jobs to the region. It features an expanded seasonal department, an indoor lumber yard, a farm and ranch department, and a designated contractor service center.
The company, a member of the True Value Company co-op, also announced plans for the new store’s neighborhood Grand Opening event, which will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018.
“We’re pleased to bring a comprehensive selection of products to Grove City for area homeowners, contractors, DIYers, farmers and all residents,” said Joe Kallen, CEO of Busy Beaver. “At the new store, our customers can expect to find what they need, get knowledgeable help, and experience legendary customer service each time they visit.”
The Grand Opening event will feature gift card and product giveaways, kids activities, with a charitable contribution to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Currently, Busy Beaver operates 18 stores in three states: Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia. The staff count is about 350.

Obituary: Glenn Ladison Hamm
Glenn Ladison Hamm, the second-generation owner of Hamm Hardware and Building Supplies in Prosperity, S.C., died recently. He was 87.
For 75 years, Hamm worked in the family business, which was a 2016 HBSDealer Hardware Store All-Star selection for the state of South Carolina.
The editorial feature included the following write up of Hamm Hardware: “It’s not unusual to find three generations of Hamms working alongside one another at family-owned Hamm Hardware & Building Supplies. Second generation leader Ladison Hamm’s engagement with the area’s emergency response teams has led to the store devoting a corner section of the sales floor to a selection of fire and rescue equipment and supplies.”
He is survived by a son, Ladison Lee (Paula) Hamm; grandchildren, Glenn Ladison (Kim) Hamm II and Rev. Adrienne (Matthew) Fink; great-grandchildren, Everett Lee Hamm, William Jefferson Hamm and Lydia Katelyn Fink.

Wanted: Hardware Store All-Stars
In 2011, HBSDealer launched an All-Star idea — recognize a high-performing hardware or building supply dealer in each one of the 50 states.
The trend continues in 2018 with the STIHL Hardware All-Stars awards, to be presented in the May issue of HBSDealer.
To date, HBSDealer has recognized about 300 hardware stores, lumberyards and farm and ranch retailers across the country as All-Stars.
All-Stars contain one or more of the following attributes:
- High levels of customer service;
- High performance – growth, sales, profit or any other metric;
- Deep involvement in the community;
- Innovative culture;
- Outstanding merchandising and store design;
- Willingness to take risks;
- A passion for philanthropy;
- Excellence in training;
- Ability to adapt to trends and society; or
- Generally, just an all-around all-star retailer
Do any of these qualities describe a store in your neighborhood? We’d love your input.
To nominate a store for recognition in the STIHL Hardware All-Stars awards program, just send a sentence or two about the store to [email protected]. Please include the store’s full name, as well as its city and state.
