Chicago — The Independent Garden Center Show came to life here at the McCormick Place Lakeside Center. The Aug. 13-15 event also included a first time Independent Home Improvement Show, powered by the National Hardware Show.

Some of themes that emerged involved grab-and-go container gardens (yes, you can turn a healthy profit with them); hiring, training and retaining talent; and cracking the millennial code.

The IGC also helped organize a store tour of Chicagoland garden centers. Among the destingations were Farmers Market Garden Center in Chicago, Pasquesi Home and Gardens in Lake Bluff, Ill.
