Builders FirstSource has alerted customers not to interact with a fake domain requesting information.

In an email sent to customers and partners, Builders FirstSource Vice President and Chief ISO Brian Wilk warned of a fake digital account.

The email states that the Dallas, Texas-based prodealer and building solutions provider recently learned of a fraudulent domain that is impersonating Builders FirstSource.

Additionally, the fake is attempting to communicate with Builders FirstSource customers and others in the industry through the BLDRQ.com domain.

In his email, Wilk said that this domain “may ask you for anything.” This includes company and personal information, requests for wire transfers, or prompts to update an account.

“Our IT security team has reached out to the registrar of the fraudulent domain to have it taken down. Until it is down there is an ongoing potential threat,” Wilk said in his email.

Builders FirstSource has also asked its customers and partners to block incoming emails from the fake domain as well as outgoing emails to this domain.

“Be diligent and do not respond to any messages from this domain,” Wilk told customers.

A spokeswoman for Builders FirstSource told HBSDealer that there was no systems intrusion, and no customer data was compromised. The company took proactive steps, as phishing is becoming increasingly common in cyberspace.

The company said that any questions or concerns about the issue can be addressed by emailing [email protected].

Builders FirstSource is the largest U.S. supplier of building products, prefabricated components, and value-added services to the professional market segment for new residential construction and repair and remodeling.

The company operates 575 locations in 42 states.
