SCMA talks cypress in Norfolk

9/27/2019
The Southern Cypress Manufacturers Association (SCMA) held its 2019 Mid-Year Meeting in Norfolk, Va. on Sept. 24, as part of the Hardwood Manufacturers Association’s (HMA) 2019 South Atlantic Regional Meeting.

The meeting included 24 attendees representing SCMA member companies, promotion sponsors, and staff who received an update on the association’s 2019–2020 promotion campaign, previewed upcoming projects, and discussed other business matters—including grade rule update suggestions and committee tasks.

Prior to the meeting, attendees took part in two tours at HMA/SCMA-member facilities that specialize in cypress.

The first stop was a sawmill tour at Josey Lumber Company, Scotland Neck, N.C. The second tour was held at Gates Milling, Inc., a sawmill and remanufacturer located in Gatesville, N.C.

The SCMA 2020 Annual Meeting is scheduled for March 25, at the JW Marriott Nashville, in conjunction with the HMA’s 2020 National Conference and Expo, March 25–27. All cypress producers, processors, and distributors are welcome to attend.

The Southern Cypress Manufacturers Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of cypress building products to trade professionals and consumers.  For more information on the SCMA, visit www.CypressInfo.org.
