X-Rite introduces Capsure for paint matching

Grand Rapids, Mich.-based X-Rite introduced a handheld instrument called Capsure, designed to help contractors and do-it-yourselfers to match colors.

The cameral-like tool retails for about $650. 

It measures a color, records the date and time of the measurement, image, text, and voice dictation. Like a huge fan deck, the product suggests a specific color to match the sample and can also recommend colors that harmonize with the sample. Capsure can be recharged through a USB port, and the instrument can hold up to 100 measurements.

It was developed to handle a wide range of material types, textures and colors, even hard-to-measure surfaces such as textured walls and facades, magazine illustrations, carpets, fabrics with small patterns and open-weave textiles that can confound other instruments because of their textural complexity.

New at Trex, power to customize curves

Winchester, Va.-based Trex Co. entered into a licensing agreement with Colorado-based CurveIt to develop and market a solution for heating and bending Trex products on the job site.

The Trex CustomCurve Heating and Bending Solution offers a new tool for the creation of customized outdoor living spaces.   

“Through this partnership, we’re providing decking contractors with the most accessible and economical bending solution on the marketplace,” said Ron Kaplan, chairman, president and CEO of Trex. “Homeowners are requesting outdoor living spaces in a variety of shapes, sizes and levels, and CustomCurve gives professionals an effective way to meet demand."

The company says the Trex CustomCurve operates at a fraction of the time and cost of existing bending methods and is capable of bending Trex decking, railing and trim products in an hour or less.

Readers Respond: Mad about MID (Mortgage Interest Deduction)

“I realize in your position it’s tough to take an opposing view to the ‘typical’ person in our industry. I wanted to let you know that in the retail building materials and construction business there are people with differing views. Every politician and industry has their ‘sacred cows.’ Our industry stands at the altar of the almighty mortgage interest deduction. This is the reason people buy houses. This is the reason people can afford houses. Hmmm. It seems like we just had a meltdown recently over issues like these. The reality is, people need a place to live. They will buy what they can afford (that’s a novel concept). If they’re not able to buy a house, they rent. (How dare I suggest that every person is not entitled to a home at every station of life?)

Adults have to say ‘no’ to debt and spending. Politicians have to say ‘no’ to every group that comes with their ‘hat in their hand.’

“I’m probably the .01% of people in the industry that thinks this way. However, I have a bigger view of life and the economy than flexing our muscle to politicians. I want all our boats to rise.”
