Tools for hurricane victims

BY HBSDealer Staff

Sparks, Maryland-based Apex Tool Group is donating $220,000 in tools to help rebuild communities affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. Gearwrench, Crescent, Wiss and Lufkin tools will be donated, along with the use of a 350,000 sq. ft. warehouse for two months, the company said.

The warehouse will be used by disaster relief nonprofit Trusted World as a sorting and staging headquarters for Harvey donations from around the country.

“Our associates as well as our businesses are committed to building today’s communities, building tomorrow’s skills, and rebuilding in times of need,” said Jim Roberts, CEO, Apex Tool Group. “While our own facilities were not impacted by the devastation of Hurricanes Harvey or Irma, putting our tools and resources in the hands of local nonprofits will  help accelerate clean up and restoration efforts.

Therma-Tru Benchmark bolsters online resources

BY HBSDealer Staff

Maumee, Ohio–The Therma-Tru Benchmark brand, which specializes in pre-hung entry doors sold exclusively through Lowe’s, has introduced new online resources intended to help DIY homeowners select and install new entry doors.

A new website (thermatrubenchmark.com) coupled with recently launched social media profiles are geared to providing how-to information on measuring, installation and maintenance to better educate homeowners before purchase. For example, the updated Design Your Door tool intuitively guides homeowners through various door styles, design choices and finishes. After selecting the door, the homeowner receives a specifications summary that can be shared with a Lowe’s representative.

“While replacing the front door can instantly boost curb appeal, it’s a purchase most homeowners make only once,” said Jeff Kessler, vice president of retail sales and marketing at Therma-Tru Corp. “That means the selection process and installation are especially important.”

Therma-Tru Benchmark’s is expanding its social media presence through Facebook, Instagram, Houzz and Pinterest; the platforms will connect with customers to share design information and how-to tips. Rhonda Waggoner, retail channel marketing manager at Therma-Tru, said connecting with homeowners on social media “gives us another opportunity to provide helpful content and resources on topics that go beyond the door. We want to inspire homeowners to love their homes inside and out and that starts with making a great entrance.”

Franke launches new line of waste disposers

BY HBSDEALER Staff

Smyrna, Tenn.-based Franke has added a new line of luxury, waste disposers to its collection of sinks, faucets and kitchen solutions. The collection comprises seven products (ranging from 1/3 horsepower to 1 1/4 horsepower) that grind to septic-system compatible levels of fineness using less energy in the fastest possible time, the company says.

“Franke’s exceptional waste disposers are indispensable for those who prize a healthy lifestyle and sustainable kitchen,” said Lars Christensen, VP product development & innovation, Franke Kitchen Systems North America. “Our new line allows users to efficiently and hygienically wash food scraps away so that they can spend more time enjoying a clean and tidy kitchen. And they offer a level of quality only Franke can provide.”

Franke’s line of waste disposers include Bio Shield, which inhibits the growth of bacteria and reduces odors by embedding antimicrobial additives into the internal components of Franke disposers (typical germs that Bio Shield guards against include escherichia coli and salmonella).

Franke’s waste disposers are available in showrooms across the country for a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) between $149 – $439 (depending on size and style).
