Hurricane Sandy relief: Benjamin Moore joins in
Benjamin Moore volunteers gave away several thousand 5-gallon buckets of emergency cleaning supplies to victims of Hurricane Sandy on Nov. 15 in Brooklyn. And on Nov. 29, they’ll move on to a new neighborhood — Union Beach in New Jersey — and do it all over again.
The Brooklyn giveaway was a joint effort with local retailer Jack Loconsolo & Co. Paint & Decorating Center. The “Giving Moore” team fanned out among the affected homes, going door-to-door to meet residents. George Oliphant, the building contractor who stars on NBC-TV’s “George to the Rescue,” also assisted. Benjamin Moore was originally founded in Brooklyn in 1883.
Another truckload of buckets and busload of “Giving Moore” volunteers are headed to Union Beach, one of New Jersey’s hardest hit communities, on Thursday, Nov. 29. All told, more than 5,000 of the cleanup kits will be distributed.
Master Forge Gas Grills recalled
The Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a recall notice for Master Forge Gas Grills, a $270 product sold at Lowe’s from November 2011 through May 2012.
If improperly installed, the hose connecting the gas tank and regulator to the burner control can touch the burner box and cause the hose to melt and rupture when the grill is lit. This poses a fire and burn hazard.
The Chinese manufacturer, Guangdong Vanward, is aware of two reports of hoses melting and rupturing. No injuries have been reported.
The recall covers Master Forge four-burner gas grills with a single-door base, which were sold exclusively at Lowe’s.
