Sealy CEO Larry Rogers soon to retire

Tempur Sealy International, Inc. has announced the retirement of Sealy Corporation president and CEO Lawrence Rogers, effective April 5.

Rogers will join the company’s board of directors, however, on March 27, comprising the board’s 11th member.

"On behalf of everyone at Tempur Sealy, I would like to thank Larry for his incredible loyalty, passion and leadership over the past 34 years at Sealy, as well as his invaluable contribution to the Tempur Sealy merger and integration efforts over the past year," said Mark Sarvary, president and CEO of Tempur Sealy International, Inc. "We are delighted that he will continue to provide his wealth of bedding industry experience as a member of our board of directors."

Rogers has been with Sealy since 1979, since serving in various roles including president, Sealy of Canada; president, Sealy International and president, North America of Sealy. He stepped into the role of CEO in 2008, joining Tempur Sealy International when the company acquired Sealy in 2013.

The company credits Rogers with the Sealy brand’s global expansion, including the successful development of Sealy Canada and the entry into the South American and Asian markets. He also played a key role in rebuilding the Stearns & Foster brand and rolling out the Sealy Posturepedic product.

Replacing Rogers will be COO Tim Yaggi, as well as EVP and president, International David Montgomery.

"After more than three decades at Sealy, I have decided that the time is right for me to retire," Rogers said. "I’ve enjoyed working with Mark to forge a new, stronger company, and I am extremely optimistic about Tempur Sealy’s future. I feel confident that by leading in innovation, customer service, quality and branding, Tempur Sealy will be unbeatable in the marketplace."

Kwikset backs NASCAR driver in Sprint Cup Series Race

Kwikset — which is part of Spectrum Brands Holdings — is sponsoring Richard Childress Racing and driver Ryan Newman during the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Season this year.

Per the partnership, Kwikset will be the primary sponsor and paint scheme for Newman’s car during the Kansas Race in Kansas City on May 10. The Kwisket logo will also be displayed on Newman’s No. 31 car for every race this season.

“Kwikset is continuously investing in ways to connect with current and potential customers, and our ongoing partnership with RCR has been a valuable way to engage with this core audience in their daily lives,” said Greg Gluchowski, president of Spectrum Brands’ Hardware and Home Improvement division. “Our partnership with RCR and Ryan Newman gives us the opportunity to showcase our passion for safety and innovation and connect with the massive NASCAR audience this season.”

Newman, who goes by "Rocket Man," has been racing cars for 15 years and has amassed 17 victories, over 185 top-10s and the title of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Rookie of the Year in 2002, as well as Driver of the Year in 2003. He won the Daytona 500 in 2008, the Brickyard 400 in 2013 and has thrice finished a career best of sixth in the final NASCAR Sprint Cup Series standings.

“Safety is important in all aspects of my life, so the partnership with Kwikset made perfect sense for our team,” said Newman. “I’m excited to have their logo on my car this year and look forward to educating fans about innovations in security on and off the track.”

Interfor plants flag in Peachtree City

International Forest Products, the largest lumber producer in the state of Georgia, will open an office in Peachtree City, Ga., to serve as a hub for its operations in the southeast United States.

The office is expected to open in early May. 

Interfor, which is headquartered in Vancouver, Canada, has grown significantly over the past years, including expansion into Georgia. Its recent acquisition of Tolleson Lumber Co. of Perry, Ga., increases Interfor’s total lumber production capacity to 2.6 billion board feet, making it one of the top five lumber producers in North America.

With 880 million board feet in Georgia, Interfor is the largest lumber producer in the state. 

Interfor employs nearly 800 people at its Georgia operations in Baxley, Swainsboro, Eatonton, Thomaston, Perry and Preston.

Speaking of Peachtree City, Interfor’s senior VP U.S. operations Joe Rodgers said:

"It is a wonderful community for our employees and their families, and will allow us to better meet the needs of our customers and mills in this region," said Rodgers. "Access to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport also supports Interfor’s continental platform and international markets." 

Interfor will be located at 700 Westpark Dr. in Peachtree City. The office will house employees in the fields of management, sales, accounting, administration and information technology.
