Screw Products adds white head, trim head screws

BY HBSDEALER Staff

Gig Harbor, Wash.-based Screw Products has added a new fastener to its extensive product line: white head, trim head screws, an exterior/interior multi-purpose screw appropriate for a wide range of projects.

These fasteners may be used with ACQ and CCA pressure-treated lumber thanks to a proprietary coating designed to protect against corrosion, and that has withstood 1,200 hours of salt spray testing, the company said.

In addition, they are designed for materials with a white finish, including decking, fascia, fencing, siding, trim and more. Available in multiple sizes — 9 in. by 1 5/8 in., 9 in. by 2 in., 9 in. by 1/2 in., and 9 in. by 3 in. — these screws can also be ordered in various quantities, including jars, and pails, and each package includes a free T-20 drill bit.

Global Harvest Foods acquires Scotts U.S. wild bird food business

BY HBSDEALER Staff

Seattle-based Global Harvest Foods, a manufacturer of wild and caged bird food and small critter feed and the producer of the Audubon Park brand, agreed to acquire the U.S. wild bird food business from subsidiaries of The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The acquisition includes the Songbird Selections, Morning Song and Country Pride brands, and it expands Global Harvest’s production capabilities into areas that represent a significant portion of the U.S. market.

The company will acquire the Scotts bird seed manufacturing plant in Reynolds, Ind., and will continue production in Doland, S.D., and Uvalde, Texas. Now operating from eight facilities nationwide, the addition of these manufacturing plants supplements Global Harvest’s national footprint, giving the company new regional service capabilities that benefits retailers with lower ingredient and reduced freight costs, quicker fulfillment times and increased inventory turnover, the company said.

“Scotts is the world’s leading marketer of branded consumer lawn and garden products,” said Ed Mills, co-founder and principal of Global Harvest Foods. “Acquiring their wild bird food business allows us to expand our retail relationships with a broader product offering, while maintaining our diligent customer service and product-quality focus. During this time, we strive to make the transition as smooth as possible for the retailers and customers of both companies.”

Currently, Global Harvest products are sold under the Audubon Park label and various store brands in more than 40,000 mass merchants, grocers, and specialty retailers throughout the United Sates.

WDMA installs new chairman

BY HBSDEALER Staff

The Window and Door Manufacturers Association (WDMA) elected Steve Donner of Weiland Sliding Doors & Windows in Oceanside, Calif., as the association’s 2014-2015 chair.

He replaces outgoing Chair Mike Salsieder, of Kolbe & Kolbe Millwork in Wausau, Wisc.

"WDMA has been at the forefront of tackling many key issues facing the window, door and skylight industry over the past several years,” said Donner. “However, we continue to face over-regulation and red tape at the federal and state level, and WDMA will continue to do its part to advocate for smart legislation, balanced standards and sensible regulation. I also look forward to strengthening our robust certification, technical, networking and education programs that benefit our members," said Donner. "WDMA has had great success over the past year in promoting, protecting and advancing the industry, and I look forward to continuing these gains on behalf of our members and the entire industry."

Donner serves as general manager of Weiland Sliding Doors and Windows, which is owned by Andersen Corporation. The company has been around for more than 25 years, and it manufactures sliding doors, folding doors, pivot doors, swinging doors and windows.
